Self care is an important part of relaxing and recharging. Taking some time to step away from the stressful parts of life and focus on filling your own cup and caring for yourself can be very beneficial to your mental health. Here are five budget-friendly self care ideas you might want to try out!
One of my favorite ways to introduce a little more luxury on a budget into my self care routine is using a shower steamer. These little pucks are filled with essential oils, you set it on the shower floor but away from the main stream of water, and your work is done. The steam will activate the steamer and your bathroom is soon a spa-like experience. My favorites are of the lavender or eucalyptus variety. So easy, simple, and cost-effective yet still delivering a relaxing and tranquil experience.
Another budget friendly self care idea is a diy manicure or pedicure. The basic supplies you’ll need are items such as hand or foot cream, nail clippers and an emery board, and your choice of nail polish. These products are available at varying price points ranging from dollar stores to target or ulta, or other higher end options. You also have the option of getting more supplies for a more comprehensive mani-pedi experience, like exfoliants, paraffin wax, or soaks, but these aren’t necessary and it is up to you and your budget. At home nail art can be a cheap and fun way to express yourself and your style. Whether you choose a chic nude-pink polish, or a bold sapphire blue, you’re sure to find something perfect for you.
Add a new addition to your home library! Go to a local bookstore, target, amazon, or wherever you want and pick out a good read for yourself! Set aside some time for yourself to dive into the book you chose. Maybe cozy up in bed and crack into your book to unwind before it’s time to sleep. Another option is to jumpstart your day by starting your book with your morning coffee or tea. There are many genres and themes of books to choose from, so choose one that you’re interested in for the best experience. I’m currently reading ‘The Secret Book of Flora Lee’ by Patti Henry, and so far I’m enjoying it!
Get outside and go for a walk! It is a completely free option to make time to honor yourself, and spend time in nature. You can pop an earbud in and listen to your favorite playlist or podcast, or you can forgo the tech and use your walk to spend time being mindful of how you feel, and fully appreciate the sounds and sensory experience of nature. As a bonus, spending time in nature also has great benefits for both your physical and mental health. I took this picture on a walk I took at sunrise recently.
Finally, we have the classic self care activity- a good old bubble bath. Choose whatever bubble bath you like, light some candles, put on some relaxing music or maybe even your favorite show or podcast. Take some time to unwind and let the warm bath soothe any aches and pains you may have. Remember you are worth the effort and time of self care. Personally, I am a big fan of the Philosophy brand bubble bath products, they have so many wonderful scents and they are versatile- they can be used as bubble bath, body wash, or even shampoo.
